About us
The continuous search for new mutations is our priority.
We develop exclusive genotyping technology for genetic polymorphisms in domestic animals, for breeders, researchers and enthusiasts.

Our story

We are a group of scientists and animal enthusiasts. In our research, we strive to understand evolutionary questions, and in it, we continuously discover mutations associated with traits of interest for animal breeders.

We believe that breeding practices can be improved by identifying such mutations in individuals for selective breeding, and by working with many animal breeders for our studies we learnt the needs of the market, and where our research can have the most impact.

The partners of this project are a team of three researchers with vast experience in applying state-of-the-art molecular methodologies to the study of animal trait evolution, with a passion for animal breeding and well-being.

Soraia Barbosa is a researcher at BIOPOLIS/CIBIO, with a focus on evolutionary genomics and animal conservation.

Miguel Araújo is a researcher at Universidade de Coimbra, with a focus on avian ecology, and also an exquisite canary and pigeon breeder.

Miguel Carneiro is the principal investigator of the Evolutionary Genomics research group at BIOPOLIS/CIBIO, and also a pigeon aficionado.
